On May 9, 1906, Anna Jarvis's mother in Philadelphia, USA, died in great sorrow. 

1906年5月9日，美國費城的安娜·賈薇絲的母親不幸去世，她悲痛萬分。

On the anniversary of her mother's death the following year, Miss Anna organized activities to remember her mother and encouraged others to express their gratitude to their mothers in a similar way. Since then, she has lobbied and appealed to all sectors of society for the establishment of Mother's Day.
在次年母親逝世周年忌日，安娜小姐組織了追思母親的活動，並鼓勵他人也以類似方式來表達對各自慈母的感激之情。此後，她到處游說並向社會各界呼籲，號召設立母親節。

Her appeal received a warm response. On May 10, 1913, the United States Senate and House of Representatives passed a resolution, signed by President Wilson proclamation, deciding that the second Sunday of May each year is Mother's Day.

It was successful, by 1911 Mother"s Day was celebrated in almost every state in recognition of the influence mothers have in the making of better citizens.

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed that the birthday of Mrs. Anna Reeves Jarvis, the "mother of Mother"s Day", would become the National Mother"s Day of the United States. 

And that from then on, the second Sunday in May would be Mother"s Day in memory of the work Mrs. 

Jarvis had done to bring families together after the Civil war, her work to bring the whole North and South together, her work to honor all the mothers of America throughout history and on into the future, but most of all to honor Mrs. 

Anna Reeves Jarvis as America"s National Mother. President Wilson asked that the American people fly the United States flag from public buildings and homes on that day as he said, as a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.

節日具有廣泛覆蓋、不斷重復、寓教於樂的特點，對人影響至深，所以重大的人倫節日對培養民族精神和凝聚力都是至關重要的。真正的母親節應該扎在心裏面，去體悟母親的愛。我們中華母親節一面提倡母愛、母教；一面提倡愛母、孝親。
